Here is what
some of our Athletic Therapists are up to:
|I am currently living in West Virginia. I am finishing my Masters and I am working out of a high school and at a clinic. My high school football team went to the state playoffs and lost in the first round. It was a huge accomplishment to even make it that far, as we were a young team. I spent the American thanksgiving working at the International Gymnastic Training Center with children from all over the US and Olympians Blaine Wilson and Amanda Borden. As far as what is going on in my area there really isn't much and I'm not exposed to a lot outside of my high school and clinic work. I will be working with the soccers in Schools program this weekend. It is a huge tournament from WV, Pa, Maryland and Va, with teams from u-10 to u-19.
|Stewart Munroe B.Sc. CAT(C)
|Stewart was the Athletic Therapist for the Calder Cup champions Saint John
Flames of the AHL and now runs his own clinic Ken-Val Rehab & Sports Injury Centre Inc. The clinic offers 4 main services that
include: athletic therapy, physiotherapy, wellness and high performance conditioning for athletes.
|Shauna Stone BSc, DipSIM, CAT(C)
|In July of 2005 I moved with my family to St.John's, Newfoundland. I am currently working as the first ever full-time Athletic Therapist on staff at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am in the process of building the AT program here, and also implementing a student trainers program. This past semester I taught a course on Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries...which I really enjoyed! I am looking forward to promoting athletic therapy in Newfoundland with the other AT's here, and also to working closely with the students here at MUN to encourage them to pursue a career in our very exciting profession of Athletic Therapy!
|I am employed at Integrated Health Services in Cole Harbour.
With the integrated model we are encouraged to use the expertise of other health professionals in our team including physiotherapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, a naturopathic doctor, a psychologist, and many others.
I do strength and conditioning programs for injury prevention, rehabilitate individuals following injury, as well as work with orthotic management and lifestyle counselling.
I also do event coverage through the Sports Medicine Council of Nova Scotia.
